A very large pre-civil war stag handled spear point Bowie knife with its original sheath and decorated in silver furniture. This knife came out of a collection in northern Mississippi and dates between 1830-1850. It is made in a English style with its locking sheath and was either imported from England or possibly made in the U.S. It has its original sheath that has a lock spring so the knife can’t slide out of the sheath. Has a stag handle with silver furniture. The guard, Ferrell, pommel, and the tip of the sheath are silver with very fine decorative engraving. The blade is a spear point style blade with a false top edge, measures 2” wide and about 13” in length. The overall length of this knife is 17.5”. This knife as well as others like it have been valued at around $1800-$2000 and are considered rare to find. These large spear point knives were very popular during the antebellum period and would have been carried by soldiers during the Texas Revolution, War with Mexico, and the American Civil War. A very decorative piece of edge weaponry that would make a wonderful addition to your collection today!
