A very rare Confederate made cloth rifle sling. These style slings were manufactured in the south and to save on leather which was in short supply, it was made using a cotton canvas cloth that was folded over to give it strength with small pieces being leather in areas of high stress. These slings are believed to have been manufactured in Richmond, due to other examples having a makers mark of a firm located within the city. The sling measures 33.5” in length and about 1.25” wide. There is a tear in the leather strip with the eyelets in the center of the sling, the rest is in very good condition. A great rare confederate item ready for your museum today and just in time for Christmas!!
