Here we have to offer a Isaac, Hollis, and Son’s contract Pattern 1853 enfield rifled musket, dated 1862. I, H, & S contract muskets are a rarity to find now a days. They imported muskets during the civil war to both the confederacy and some northern states during the war. This example was originally a British government arm that would have been purchased by the firm and then resold. We know this by the proofs marks located on top of the barrel near the breech. As you will see the gun once had British government proof marks where an attempt was made to remove them and then was replaced with Birmingham proof marks. The gun also has interesting numbers stamp into the stock near the trigger guard tang. The numbers match the correct size and font that was used for confederate imported rifles, and there have been examples found of CS enfields with numbers being stamped in the same location.
The gun is in very good original untouched condition, with a strong tight working action, crisp markings and strong rifling in the barrel. An overall beautiful gun, that saw service during the war, with potential evidence linking it to confederate service.
